Heavy explosions, at the Eid-Sallah ground, along University road and Gwange area of Damaturu, the Yobe state capital have left several people dead and several others injured.

This is coming less than 24 hours after the Chief of Army Staff, Major General T.Y. Buratai announced that, he would be celebrating his Eid-el-fitr Sallah in Damaturu, the Yobe State capital.

According to them, the explosion which occurred preparatory to Muslims going for the Eid-Prayer, has forced many residents to remain at home and pray in their closet.

It was gathered that, many other people who were already out to go to the prayer ground and those who were making late preparations for their household were hit by vehicles in the cause of the commotion generated by the explosion.

Aural Ibrahim, a resident of Damaturu told our correspondent that one of the security vehicles, during the incident hit four people, who died at the spot and their bodies were evacuated to the hospital.

“At about 7:00 am, I left home to go and pick my sister at Jerusalem area when suddenly I heard a heavy sound of explosion and another followed. Then I saw people running. Before I could go back home, another explosion went off again. There were three explosions. When I called my brother later to find out, he told me that one occurred at the Eid- Sallah ground but there are few people at the Sallah ground. The other was at Gwange area and along the University road.” She said.

Another resident, Kabiru Mohammed said, he saw ambulance and security vehicles conveying some injured persons to the hospital. According to him, many people were said to have been injured in the explosion but he did not know about death.

Security authorities in Damaturu are yet to make official statement on the incident.
