MTN seeks out of court settlement with NCC

Telecom giant, MTN has asked for an out-of-court resolution in its case against the punitive fine slammed on the company by the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC).

According to Technological Times, Wole Olanipekun, SAN, who led a team of 10 other senior advocates as MTN’s legal council, informed the presiding judge, Mohammed Idris at the Federal High Court, Ikoyi in Lagos that MTN has chosen to settle out of court.

What MTN’s request in court implies at the moment is unclear.

In 2015, the NCC reduced the fine from N1.04 trillion to N780 billion while insisting that MTN pay up before December 31, 2015.

However, MTN went to court to contest the decision of the NCC.

Following the request by MTN, Idris adjourned the case till March 18, 2016.
