Police recover 8,000 stolen PVCs in Delta
The Police in Delta on Thursday said it had recovered 7,565 stolen Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) in the state.
This is disclosed in a statement signed by the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) of the State’s Police Command, Celestina Kalu in Warri, Enugu state.
Kalu said that the PVCs were stolen from the office of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in Oghara, Ethiope West Local Government Area of the state.
He said that Shakira Adewale, an INEC employee in Oghara, reported a case of stolen PVCs at the Oghara Police Station on Feb. 10 and named the night guard as a suspect stating that Adewale reported that unknown gunmen invaded the office on Feb. 9 at about 10:38pm and carted away 6,000 PVCs and registers.
”Based on the report, detectives swung into action and apprehended the security guards, Aherebe Godday, Omajemite Justice, and Oyubu Ejiro for interrogation. Similarly, detectives in a follow-up investigation apprehended one Lucky Aputu, 46, in Onyobulu inland market road, Oghara and allegedly recovered one of the stolen INEC registers from him. The PVCs had since been handed over to the INEC,” Kalu said.
Kalu, however, said that investigation was still in progress to fish out the perpetrators of the crime.
