2015 is still in its infancy and Wizkid
is currently embroiled in another beef. The star who endured an
emotional 2014 has been thrown back into the mix of bitterness and
public attack, and it isn’t pretty.
Skales, his
long-time pal and former label-mate has put him on the spot with
accusations about a lack of support and plenty of dirty laundry being
aired. In all, it is in bad taste. People all over have dropped in with
contributions and comments, and it has become messy.
For
Wizkid, this just throws him back into the circle of public battles and
messy fights. Last year, Wizkid had his hands full. He was arch-enemy
to Davido, ungrateful snob to Samklef, and unhelpful villain to Saeon.
All
of these disputes came from a place of emotion, and tell a touching
story. Davido and Wizkid lead the charge to dominate Nigerian music.
What they have in common is their individual success, youth, and
vibrancy. The beef between them ruined a good chance to collaborate and
in synergy, become bigger stars. War scuttled that chance.
Samklef
came from a place of gratitude and attitude. Having being instrumental
in the early success of Wizkid, the producer had become disillusioned
with the attitude of Wizkid to him. And he took it personal.
Saeon didn’t her money’s worth for a collaboration with the Starboy boss, and took time out to call him out. She got emotional.
With
the turn of 2015, many had believed that Wizkid has cast off his
penchant for attracting beef. This year has seen him come under attack
for his ‘stale’ music. His new songs, ‘Wonder’ and ‘Sound It’, have both
failed to excite people, with critics blaming his nonchalance for the
poor reception of his products.
Even his ‘Ojuelegba’ video had a poor review.
With
all of these happening, his next move was to release a new song with
Chris Brown, but not before he got himself dirty with Skales. Wizkid is
currently focusing on a beef, not music.
A case
can be made for the young gun about him being blameless for the attack,
but he had the power and the choice to ignore, or be conciliatory. He
chose none. If anything, he gave as good as he got.
With
that wrong choice, he has regressed. Wizkid has gone back to his ways
of old.
He has shown little growth from last year, choosing to handle
adversity without thought or consideration for the bigger picture.
Wizkid’s dirty laundry is in the open (and Skales’ too), and people can look, raise their noses in disgust, and sneer.
